Braves Hit Eight Home Runs in a Crazy Game

from Espn.com CHICAGO (AP)—Edgar Renteria hit two of the Atlanta Braves’ club-record eight homers in a 13-12 victory in 11 innings over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.

Marcus Giles hit a three-run homer and Adam LaRoche homered twice for the Braves. Atlanta also got solo shots from Andruw Jones, Ryan Langerhans and Brayan Pena to complete the three-game sweep of the Cubs, who have lost 21 of their last 25 games, including six straight.

The eight home runs by the Braves broke a club record set on Aug. 3, 1967, against the Cubs in Milwaukee. Chicago also set a club record for giving up the most home runs in one game. The Cubs broke the old record of seven, most recently set on Sept. 9, 2000 against Houston.

Pena set the club’s franchise record in the seventh inning. He hit his first career homer leading off the inning against Cubs reliever Roberto Novoa making it 12-8.

After blowing a four-run lead in the ninth, the Braves scored in the 11th when Langerhans hit a routine pop-fly that Cubs’ third baseman Aramis Ramirez couldn’t catch. Langerhans reached second on the error. After a groundout advanced him to third Giles followed with a single.

Scott Eyre (0-1) took the loss for the Cubs.

Oscar Villarreal (7-0) pitched a scoreless 10th inning and Ken Ray pitched the 11th for his second save in three chances.

The Braves bullpen couldn’t hold a 12-8 lead in the ninth, Todd Walker led off with a single to left off Lance Cormier. One out later, Jones singled to right, chasing Cormier. Ronny Cedeno followed with a pinch-hit double off of Chris Reitsma, cutting the lead to 12-9. Neifi Perez followed with a two-run triple off the wall in right. Freddie Bynum tied the game at 12 with a slow bouncer that Reitsma picked up and threw home to Pena, who wasn’t able to put the tag on Perez.

It was Reitsma’s fourth blown save of the season.

Braves starter John Smoltz gave up eight runs and 10 hits in six innings.

Chicago pitcher Jae Kuk Ryu, making his first major league start was overmatched by the Braves lineup. He gave up four home runs to the first 10 batters he faced and was chased after working only 1 1-3 innings.

Game notes
Womack made his first start of the season for the Cubs. ... Smoltz came up lame after covering first base in the second inning. He stayed in the game after he threw several warmup tosses. ... Jeff Francoeur threw out Michael Barrett at the plate from right on a fly in the second inning. Barrett was trying to score from second on Ramirez’s single. Todd Pratt, who put the tag on Barrett left the game after the inning and was replaced by Pena. ... Smoltz broke his errorless streak at 162 games with an error in the sixth inning.

NFL Fantasy Results 2005

I have been sitting on this data for a while now. I’m just gonna post it now cause I’m more than months behind anyway so what’s the difference. Not sure exactly how many of these leagues I was the commish for (at least 60% I’d say) but each league had a slightly different point value system. That made things difficult at times because I certainly couldn’t keep the leagues straight. I a league that I joined that the commish changed the settings post draft to reward all his kick/punt returners he drafted. That league was bullshit but I still counted in this tally.

Game 7 All Around

well not in miami beach florida

Today Cleveland @ Detroit
Tomorrow Dallas @ San Antonio, LA Clippers @ Phoenix

so 80% of the time the home team wins that would leave
Detroit vs Miami, San Antonio vs Phoenix

I don’t exactly care who makes it all the way but I’d rather not see a rematch of last years Detroit vs San Antonio matchup. Either way, I will of course be watching the rest of the playoffs and the finals despite my Lakers not taking part.
I look at it like this:

If Detroit goes to the finals then whatever, I’ll just have something sports-wise to talk about with other people at work.

If Cleveland goes all the way then it will be awesome to see how far LeBron can push it so early in his career. Didn’t it take Jordan something like 5 times to get past Detroit?

Miami in the finals would be fine since D-Wade is like the best player in the league and I’ve always had a kinship with my brother Shaquille.

I’m pulling for the Suns in the West despite how even more awesome they would be to watch with Amare in the middle. Nash is just the man and he deserves his due soon.

The Mavs in the finals would be fine cause Dirk is like Super-man even though he is just another cheesy European player. Plus Cuban puts on a good show.

I’d rather not see the Spurs cause I can pretty much guarantee they will win it and it won’t be exciting. Mr Fundamental Timmy D will stop anybody, Parker will run circles around whoever tries to guard him, and Manu will make Jordanesque plays minus the thundering dunks and the Spurs will win again.

If the Clippers make it I will have a tough time swallowing watching the games. Sam Cassel is just the ugliest player in the league and it’s the Clippers for cripes sake. Brand is a beast however.

So with that being said,
I’m rooting for the Cavs today and the Mavs and Suns tomorrow.

(or at least seen it on TV live)

ATLANTA (AP)—The Atlanta Braves did it again, pulling off another improbable comeback when Chipper Jones hit a three-run homer in the 11th inning to beat the Florida Marlins 6-4 on Wednesday night.

The Braves overcame a 5-0 deficit to win the opener of the series 11-8, then came back in both the ninth and 11th innings to pull out a 4-3 victory on Tuesday. They followed the exact same script for their fourth comeback win in five games—Jeff Francoeur hit a walk-off grand slam to beat Washington 8-5 over the weekend.

Atlanta (20-20) won for the eighth time in 10 games, got to .500 for the first time since April 23 and closed to 4½ games of the first-place New York Mets in the NL East.

Continue…

(p.s. mets lost woohoo, actually did see the last inning of that game on tv.. nice save by Isi)

Just wanted to say that you all rock as well. Whether or not I know you or even if you don’t even know me, you are cool by me. To those who I do know and have become part of my life, I thank you for that. I love life and most everything about it. Thanks for making my life a part of yours (or something like that).

Confession

I’ve been listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers for 3 weeks straight. (mostly, including a lot of the time I was in my car when I was traveling). This includes old stuff and more recently the new cd which is actually pretty good. I just wanted to say that they ROCK and that’s what I’m all about.

In other news..

I’ve completed 3 SuDoKu puzzles so far today.

Granted, they were on the easy level but that doesn’t really make them easy.

Whats sudoku?
Sudoku, also known as Number Place, is a logic-based placement puzzle. The aim of the puzzle is to enter a numerical digit from 1 through 9 in each cell of a 9×9 grid made up of 3×3 subgrids (called “regions”), starting with various digits given in some cells (the “givens”); each row, column, and region must contain only one instance of each numeral. Completing the puzzle requires patience and logical ability. Although the puzzle was first published in a U.S. puzzle magazine in 1979, it initially caught on in Japan in 1986 and attained international popularity in 2005.

Here is an example
