The Atlanta Braves appear to be the winner for the right to acquire first baseman Mark Teixeira from the Texas Rangers.
A preliminary agreement has been reached between the teams for Atlanta to receive Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay from Texas for catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, minor league shortstop Elvis Andrus and two minor league pitchers.
Baseball America rates Saltalamacchia and Andrus as the Braves’ top two prospects in their organization.

Sage’s Special Surprise
I told Sage yesterday that she would have a special surprise if she was a good girl yesterday… and low and behold around 10:30pm last night she got her surprise…. Toby and Indy came to visit her and hang out with her for the weekend. Martje came up North yesterday with the dogs. Today she’s going up to Kate’s but the dogs are going to be chilling with Sage all day today by themselves. I’m sure they are going to have a great day. They had about 20 bone chunks laying around on the floor this morning and I’m sure thats where 90% of their time will go towards today.
Wedding Pics..
I’m going to make an effort and try to put some pics online tonight. If that doesn’t happen look for something by the end of the weekend but I’ll probably be able to upload some. I’ve gotten a bunch of pictures from people and am always looking for more. I know a lot of people had digital cameras so I’m excited to see everything you got from that weekend.
We’re still waiting for our Marriage License :( We’ll give the State a few more days before we start making phone calls. We’re thinking maybe it had something to do with 7/7/07 being such a busy wedding day, but seriously, come on NYS. Once that comes in, we’ll begin the process of officially updating our names, getting our NYS Licenses, etc.
There’s not much time to do things anymore. My free time has gone from about 10-12 hours a day to 4-5. But that’s okay cause that’s what you gotta do to make the big bucks and not work in a crappy buffet in the middle of nowhere.
Regarding My Falcons.
Today is opening day of Falcons training camp. As many of you may or may not know I am an extremely huge Falcons fan. And as many of you also may know, I have also been a big fan of #7. I have been a fan of the team for almost 20 years now dating back to the days when Neion Deion split time between the Falcons and the Braves. The Braves have been great for the entire time but it’s been a rough time for my Falcons. They’re good one year, horrible the next, mediocre the year after that, and then bad the next year. They’re never consistent year after year. One year, they finally make it to the Super Bowl and because I was traveling, I wasn’t even able to watch the game live. So, the Media usually ignores the Falcons and I’m only able to get my info either directly from the team and it’s message board or from the Atlanta media like the AJC.
Unfortunately and horrificly the Falcons have been pushed to the top of the mainstream sports media. I would be glad if they had the spotlight because they just won the Super Bowl, or brought in some fresh faces, or just had a great chance to be the next team on the rise. Unfortunately they have been pushed to the spotlight because their signature player is connected to some of the most completley atrocious crimes a person could ever commit (short of rape and murder). I’m going to skip over the debate of whether or not to use the word allegedly. All I can simply say is that I am extremely dissapointed to have someone I’ve held so much stock in over the last 6 or so years be even the slighest bit connected to this complete mess. When the truth comes out and the verdict is in, if he is proven guilty I will find it hard to agree with the maximum sentence of 6 years. That’s not enough in my opinion. As a dog owner, dog lover, and animal lover myself it’s completely frustrating to have every story about my team opening their preseason be connected to a story as horrible as this.
I am really glad that the NFL took preventative action to ban the player from training camp. With that news, PETA decided to cancel their protests that would have also occured at camp. I am glad that the players, despite the fact that their team leader is not at camp, can at least try and go on without the distraction. I really hope my team can win this year, but the outlook isn’t very good, so therefore my expectations are much lower than they would have been otherwise.
P.S. (Friday 9AM) – Understand first and foremost, I support what’s best for my Falcons to win.
Yay Tuesday!
Alright.. So I suppose I can’t give you something positive all the time, so this time I’ll give a few things positive and a few things negative to balance us out a bit..
I love the Rain. I enjoy water and don’t mind getting wet. True I don’t want to be downpoured on, but a little drizzle is good. If all I have to complain about is getting the glasses slightly wet then whatever, thats fixable.
I dislike Tuesdays. It’s not Monday and it’s not Wednesday. What is it? It’s not even a day closer to Friday. It’s the worst day ever invented but I’m not going to go crazy about it. I can deal with it. It’s a good day to go grocery shopping.
I hate chairs with no arms. Oh– Also waking up at 5:30AM.. Yeah that’s annoying.

YAY!! MONDAY!!
I love Mondays, don’t you? They are the greatest invention of our time. If it weren’t for Mondays there wouldn’t be Tuesdays or Fridays. Mondays snap the end of your weekend off and leave you with a work week..
In other news, Bickersmith Thank You Cards are completed and will be in the mail tomorrow. That’s how we do. Anyway, I’m gonna head back to my Monday. I sincerely hope you enjoy yours.
The Weekend!
Fantasy Football Leagues– Family & Friends, Keeper, Open…
I finally got around to setting up my main 3 football leagues!
There are three options that I welcome anyone reading this to send me a message (or post comment) if you are interested and I’ll message you back.
***AXA Keeper League***
First year of a keeper, Keep 5 per year
***Smith Family and Friends League***
In the 26th year of existence. The UFL (Upstate Football League) was originated by my parents, extended family, and friends in the early 80’s.
**B-Smith Open League**
Open to anyone. You will place against the extended B-Smith network including family, friends, and others!
The usual suspects will be in all leagues and there will be new slots for new people. I refuse to fill out any league with an in-active manager. If you aren’t going to play, don’t ask to join..
Each league has the same roster settings and scoring options.
Initial invites have been sent out..
Please sign up if you are interested.
Computer develops a brain for checkers
Computer develops a brain for checkers
July 21, 2007
IT TOOK 18 years to figure out all 500 billion billion combinations at checkers, but Canadian scientists have finally programmed a computer that can’t be beaten at the 5000-year-old game.
The achievement, reported in Science magazine, is considered a milestone in the development of artificial intelligence.
Called Chinook, the checkers champion computer is the brainchild of Jonathan Schaeffer and his team of computer wizards at the University of Alberta.
Completed in April, Chinook can never be beaten, and can only be tied at checkers if its opponent makes all the right moves, Mr Schaeffer said.
“I think we’ve raised the bar, and raised it quite a bit, in terms of what can be achieved in computer technology and artificial intelligence,” said Mr Schaeffer, who is chairman of the university’s department of computing science.
A self-described “awful” checkers player, Mr Schaeffer created Chinook to exploit the superior processing and memory capabilities of computers and determine the best way to incorporate artificial intelligence principles to play checkers.
He consulted the world’s top checkers players and over 18 years ran an average of 50 computers — with more than 200 running at peak times — daily to compute the knowledge necessary to complete Chinook, albeit with an interruption from 1997-2001.
The initial goal was to have Chinook conquer the world championship in checkers.
It entered in 1990, reached the finals in 1992 but lost, and in 1994 became the first computer to win.
Chinook has its own entry in Guinness World Records and remained undefeated until 1997 when it was “retired”.
But Mr Schaeffer resumed tweaking Chinook in 2001 to make it completely unbeatable at the board game.
At chess, computers have a long way to go — centuries scientists estimate — before they can handle the astronomical combinations required to master the game to the point of perfection.
Checkers boards have been found in Egyptian archaeological excavations.

So this is the new routine?
It’s 8:30 and I’ve been awake for 3 hours! Dang.. Back when I had my last routine, I would still be sleeping for another hour. The one thing I will have to work on is the “going to sleep” time. 11, 1130, 12 are just not going to cut it.. If I could just be in bed by 1030ish at the latest then I’ll be in better shape, but to be honest, the shorter amount of sleep hasn’t affected me.
