This summarizes 1/2 of my frustrations at home last night.
My damn computer wouldn’t get past this screen after a few failed attempts to start up and the furnance would not turn on and we were cold all night.
Last Saturday the furnance wouldn’t turn on so we went down to the basement to mess with it. If we tapped the side of it, it would start to turn on and then stop. We opened the door thing and read the manual and tried pressing the red reset button. After a few minutes of that and tapping the side of the thing it did finally turn on. Then yesterday we tried the same thing but with much less patience and it did not turn on. How annoying. Supposedly someone is going to come look at it today (THEY BETTER) and hopefully we will have a heated house to return to tonight.
The computer is a different story that frustrates me beyond belief. For one thing, I should not have to unplug my external hard drive everytime I try and turn the damn thing on. There are many issues with the damn thing and if it ever loads up again I will keep it on, as I had done before. Someday maybe one of my smart computer friends will help me out. Maybe this summer I will price new machines but I know right now I don’t have the 2-3 grand I will need to get what I want.

i’ll help ya…why can’t you boot w/ external hard drive plugged in? what happens?
computer boot yet? possible HDD problem? i’ve got a copy of spinrite you can run on your HDD to diagnose any problems, or you could d/l a copy for $10 or something at grc.com.
hit me back…even tho i’ve been relegated to the bottom of the friend list again :-/
bwah!.. yah i dont know, when its plugged in it tries to load the OS from it.. even though there aint no OS on it…
i did get it to boot.. yesterday even trying to do safe mode it would die when trying to load some sys thing.. so this time i just press ESC so it didnt bother trying to do that… it loaded up in safe mode, i restarted, and it finally loaded normally…
someday ill just have to wipe it completely clean and start fresh, but successfully.
when you initially boot your pc hit f2 to get into the bios setup and check your boot order. most likely you have external devices before your local hdd.
lemme know what that error is next time you see it. xp? as long as your not deleting things from the windoze directory willy-nilly, and the hdd is in good order, you shouldn’t see problems booting.
yup, been there many times… when the external hard drive is plugged in, bios defaults it to number 1 and the HDD isnt selectable…
i think once you get all your coding and bug fixing done, and you are ready for a trip out of beantown, im gonna have to have you over one weekend all expenses paid so you can HOOK me up right, and ill feed you and et cet.. i realize that may be in a few months, but thats okay… once it gets nice out.. youll need a weekend off
so change your boot order in the bios (f2 @ startup)…all expense paid trip to the outskirts of albany? i’m all in!
im telling you those options arent there in that circumstance.
must be the bios gremlins hiding it on you…
moe show in albany?
you have been added to the guest list
